STAR Testing: May 17, 18, & 21, 2012

STAR testing for grades 9-11 will take place Thursday, May 17 through Monday, May 21. On Thursday, Friday and Monday students are to report immediately to their 4th period classroom at 8:00 a.m. There will be no zero period on the three days of STAR Testing. The schedule for the testing week can be found below and at www.sjhhs.orgunder “Quick Links.”

Students will receive a pamphlet on Tuesday, May 8 during tutorial listing their STAR scores for the past two years. You are encouraged to review the information with your child to determine an achievement goal for this year.

Students should get a good night of sleep each evening before testing. They should also eat a good breakfast and bring a healthy snack to eat during one of the scheduled breaks each day.

Please encourage your children to put forth their very best effort on these tests. There are important reasons for students to do their best on STAR testing including: (1) students can earn a potential grade boost through the grade incentive program, (2) placement in advanced-level classes and other classes is partially based on STAR test performance, (3) students who meet performance-level requirements during three years of testing are awarded the Golden State Seal Merit Diploma and (4) students scores directly relate to the way the school is compared to other local schools, and a better school API score creates a better image on college applications.

STAR Testing Schedule:

Th. 5/17, Fri. 5/18, Mon. 5/21

Testing block, 8:00 – 11:50

Lunch, 11:50 – 12:25

Per. 2/1/5, 12:35 – 1:35

Per. 4/3/6, 1:45 – 2:45
