Boys Basketball: Stallion Win Streak Ended at Four Games

Corona del Mar - Not only did the Sea Kings celebrate senior night, they also secured a Pacific Coast League title as they beat the Stallions 64-53 on Thursday night.  The Stallions jumped to an early lead only to see it dwindle late in the second quarter.  By half time they were down by 4 and could not gain the lead back in the second half.

Even with the loss the Stallions still reamin in second place in the Pacific Coast League and will likely play at home in the first round of the CIF playoffs.  The Stallions finish the season at home versus Laguna Hills next Tuesday night and then will wait until the weekend for news of their first round matchup.  The CIF playoffs begin on Wednesday, February 17th.

Boys Basketball Riding High on Four Game Win Streak

San Juan Capistrano - With the win on Tuesday night against Irvine 55-51 the Stallions improve to 6-2 in Pacific Coast League play and find themselves all alone in second place.  That is how it should stay unless the Stallions can win out with two games left and hope that Corona del Mar suffers an upset loss to Beckman in the final game of the regular season.  If this were to occur, the Stallions would tie for the league championship and cap an unbelieveable inaugural varsity season.  While that may be unlikely, it is more than likely that the Stallions will earn the first playoff appearance by a team sport in the school's short history.  The second place finish could also possibly put the Stallions at home in that first playoff appearance, and from that point on, it will be in the hands of destiny.  Anyone who follows high school playoff basketball knows that every game is up for grabs in the post-season.

For now, there two games left as the 21st ranked Stallions travel to 9th ranked Corona del Mar on Thursday night before coming home to finish the season against Laguna Hills next Tuesday.  Corona del Mar handed the Stallions one of their two league losses in a 1 point game on January 19th that came down to the wire.  It should be another excitng matchup versus one of the top teams in Orange County.
