Uzair came to the orchestra his freshman year in 2012.  He was part of the viola section.  After a great 1st year, he was diagnosed with cancer in the summer before his sophomore year.  He was unable to attend school, but it was important to him to still be a part of the orchestra, so he would rehearse the music at home and perform at our concerts.  After some positive progression in his recovery, he came back to school for his Junior year, but unfortunately his condition began to worsen and he had to leave school again.  On February 14th, 2015 Uzair passed away after his long and courageous battle with cancer.

Uzair was a dear friend to so many of us, and even in the worst moments in his battle, he would often come to visit the orchestra with high spirits.  He was so full of energy and always filled with hope and optimism.  We remember his great joy, love, friendship, and compassion for others, and, in honor of his name, and in coordination with the Qureshi family, we would like to keep his name alive in our program by assisting instrumental music students reach their college goals.  Please help us remember Uzair and support our students by donating to the Uzair Qureshi Memorial Scholarship Fund by clicking here.  All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law, and you will receive an end of the year receipt from our Performing Arts Boosters notating our non-profit tax ID number, 26-0560534.
