Course Offerings

First of all, please fill out the New Member Information List on this page.  If you have any questions, you can contact Mr. McElroy at drmcelroy@capousd.org.  Above, you will find a document that contains detailed information on course offerings.  As an incoming 9th grader, you can only sign up for marching band, concert band or string orchestra.  If you would like to try out for one of the advanced groups (or intermediate - strings only), you will need to audition.  Auditions are due on April 24th 2020, and you will be moved from the 'regular' course that you signed up for during registration into the group you auditioned into.  To audition, you will need to submit a video in the following Google Classrooms - Strings (ztbjebu), Winds/Percussion (x8da36).  Audition information is posted in those classrooms.  For now, as long as you're in concert band or string orchestra, you've done well, and we can move your level later.

Concert Band members - please sign up for marching band as well.  This counts for your PE class, so you do not need to sign up for regular PE.  String players are encouraged to sign up as well.  We have many string players play in the drumline, and some pick up a new wind instrument.  Marching band meets T/TH evenings 6-9 so students can fit it into their schedule and still be able to participate in most sports that meet 5th/6th period and continue after school.  We perform at 5 home football games and 1 parade.

Dean McElroy

Good Day, and welcome to Dean McElroy's personal webpage.  I am the director of all instrumental music (all band and orchestras, marching band, pit orchestra, and AP music theory) at SJHHS. I began my teaching career at Aliso Niguel High School, and I was fortunate to be able to be honored with the Visual and Performing Arts spot on the planning team for San Juan Hills High School.  I have been here since the school's opening in 2007.  In that time, I've seen our program grow from less than 20 Freshmen only in each band and orchestra into 2 bands and 3 orchestras with over 250 students - playing some of the top literature at a very high level.  Teaching is a strong passion of mine, and being part of the musical development of young adults throughout the years has been an honor.  Personally, I a married, have three children (22,17,14), am a huge Angel, Laker, and Charger fan,

Performance schedules and more detailed information can be found on the instrumental music page.  Please feel free to email me at drmcelroy@capousd.org  with any questions about the Instrumental Music Program.
